AutoProctor Test Settings

Test, Timer, Proctor and Advanced Settings

On AutoProctor's Test Settings page, you can configure details about the test's name, its time window and duration, what proctoring is enabled, how candidates log on to the test, etc. To get to the settings page, you can click on the Settings button next to each test from your dashboard.

Test Settings Button

These Settings do not control the settings of the Quiz and Questions itself. For that, you must open the Quiz on the test provider like Google or Microsoft Forms. For Socratease Quizzes, click here.

When you visit the Test Settings page, you will see 4 different sections

Settings Sections

Main Settings

Test Link: You can copy the link to the test, view results, archive the test, etc

Enable Timer: This checkbox determines if you want to enable time-related conditions like Start Time, Duration, etc. Unchecking this box disables all time-related checks.

Enable Proctor: This checkbox determines if you want to enable proctoring on the test. Unchecking this box would mean the test isn't proctored at all.

Enable Auto-resume: Depending on the type of test, you may or may not see this option. This tells you whether candidates can resume a test, if they close and reopen a test, or reload the webpage while taking a test. Learn more in this article.

Max Attempts: If you want a candidate to attempt a test only once, set this number to 1. By default, there is no restriction on the number of attempts. Learn more here.

Test Title: The name of the test on your dashboard and also the title your candidates see.

Timer Settings

The time you see is your local time. We handle all timezone conversions automatically. For eg, if your candidates are 3 hours ahead of you and you set 5 PM, when they attempt the test, we will automatically check for 8 PM.

Timer Settings

Duration: The maximum time a candidate can attempt the test for. The countdown starts when the test loads and the candidates see the questions. This article explains what happens if they close the test and try resuming later.

Auto-submit Test: This determines whether the test should automatically be submitted once the test duration has elapsed. If this setting is not enabled, users get unlimited time to submit the test.

IMPORTANT: For non-Socratease Quizzes, auto-submit only submits the proctoring, not the questions itself. So, we calculate the Trust Score, but if the candidate has not submitted the quiz, ALL THEIR ANSWERS WILL BE LOST. So, for non-Socratease Quizzes, use this option with caution. For Socratease Quizzes, the candidate's answers and proctoring violations will BOTH be submitted automatically. That is also why we recommend you use Socratease Quizzes.

Can't Start Before Date: If a date is set here, candidates cannot start the test before this date. If Can't Start Before Time is not set, 12 midnight is taken as the default time.

Can't Start Before Time: Specify the time before which candidates cannot start the test.

Can't Start After Date: Specify the date after which test takers cannot start the test. If Can't Start After Time is not set, 12 midnight is taken as the default time.

Can't Start After Time: Specify the time after which candidates cannot start the test.

Must Submit By Time: This is used to specify the time by which candidates must submit the test. Say, your test's duration is 30 minutes and you have set Must Submit By Time to 12:30 PM. If a candidate starts the test at 12:15 PM, they get only 15 minutes to complete the test. We use the same date as Can't Start After Date, so this must always be set.

Proctoring Settings

Proctoring Settings

Tab Switching: Detect when a candidate switches out of the test tab into a different tab on the browser, or to another application. Also, take a screenshot of the tab they switched into.

Detect Multiple Monitors: Detect if a candidate has connected their computer to external monitors, etc.

Camera: Detect if no face is visible on the camera feed, or multiple faces are visible. Capture photos towards evidence.

Microphone: Monitor the sound environment and record the audio when noise is detected.

Photos at Random: Capture a few random photos throughout the test. The exact time at which the photos are captured is randomized.

Enforce Full Screen: Force candidates to attempt the test on a full-screen. They can't switch tabs or applications easily. If they exit full screen, we record that as a violation.

Enforce Desktop: Force candidates to attempt the test on a desktop or laptop. Test won't load on a tablet or mobile.

Photo Before Test Start: Captures a photo of the test taker before the test starts.

Customize Message: Customize the message candidates see when they are asked to take a photo before the test starts. Can be used to ask the candidate to display their ID card, etc while taking the photo.

To Whom it is Communicated

Me after the Test: Store the evidence of anomalies so that it can be reviewed later. If this is disabled, we don't store the photos, audio files, etc. We recommend keeping this on, unless there is a strong reason to disable it.

User during the Test: Inform the candidate during the time if we detect a violation. We recommend keeping this on because the candidate will then attempt to fix their exam environment. For eg, if they are playing music, we will detect it as a Noise violation. Giving them this feedback will help them avoid such harmless violations.

Advanced Settings

Advanced Settings

Login Providers: Enable if the candidate can sign in with their (i) Google account, (ii) Microsoft account or (iii) Email. For Google and Microsoft Forms tests, you can't change this option. This is because candidates have to login only with Google and Microsoft respectively. For Socratease Quizzes and Iframe Tests, you can choose one or more of these options. Read more on this link.

Login Restrictions: If you want to restrict the test to certain email IDs or domains, you can specify this here. Restricting the test based on email ID explains how this works. If you want to invite only a specific set of candidates, see how you can invite them via email.

Google Sheets URL: Write the results of your test to a Google Sheet. For non-Socratease Quizzes, you do not get the quiz score. For Socratease Quizzes, you get the proctoring result as well as the quiz score. Automatically Write Test Results to Google Sheets explains how you can do this.

Collaborators: Add colleagues as collaborators to your test. They can then edit the settings, see the results, etc. You can set the test's Primary Admin by clicking on the Manage button. Learn more about collaborators

Unique URL for Each Test Taker: By default, you share a common test link with all your candidates (see #1 on Main Settings above). This common link may be shared with other users, who aren't your candidates. If you enable this setting, each candidate gets a unique link to attempt the test. This ensures that only the people with whom you share the links can take the test.
